Is it Time to Detoxify the Body?

detoxify the bodyThe more raw you eat, the greater chance to detoxify the body.  Detoxing occurs when your body has a chance to work on healing rather than digesting.  Some people refer to this as a “Detox Crisis.”  I look at it as a “Detox Opportunity.”  When I am going through a detox, I am so excited!  I know that sounds silly.  But it is true.  I love going through a detox.  It isn’t pleasant, but I know my body is cleansing itself of built up toxins.

When you detoxify the body, it is a good thing to have a colonic.  If you have never had one, it can seem intimidating.  You will be amazed at how wonderful you feel.  Email me to discuss this privately if you are considering a colonic.  Disease starts in the colon.  The proper absorption of nutrients and complete elimination of waste products is absolutely essential to good health.  Toxic colons are prevalent in our fast food, fast paced lives.  Improper diet, lack of exercise, overeating, and stress are a few things that lead to a multiple of health problems.  These can include; fatigue, indigestion, weight gain, headaches, bad breath, body odor, loss of memory, constipation, diarrhea, and even cancer.

Below is a list of possible symptoms.  I am not a doctor or health care professional. I will never advise you to stop taking medications or not to take any medication.  This is your choice and between you and your doctor.  Be aware, if you are detoxify the body, and you do take medication, you will stop the detox.

Remember the commercial with the scrubbing bubbles.  They are smiling and happy while making your tub sparkle and shine!  This is what eating raw foods are doing to your system.  Listed are some signs of detox.  You may get some, you may get none.  You may have mild symptoms.  You may have more severe symptoms.  Just be aware that you are detoxing and this is to be expected with these health plans.   If you go through a detox, allow your body to rest more, drink more water and add fresh squeezed lemon to your water.  The lemon is very alkalizing and will help soothe your system.

  • headache
  • cold like symptoms – stuffy nose, dripping nose, earaches, sore throat
  • flu like symptoms – achy sore joints and muscles, slight fever, fatigue
  • acne
  • grouchy
  • constipated
  • diarrhea

None of your symptoms should last more than 24 to 48 hours unless you are going through a major detox cleanse.

Poop:  I know…this is maybe more information than you wanted but you need to know… We need to talk about your BM’s.  Your stool should always be light brown in color, solidly formed and not smell…  This is the sign of healthy poop.  If your poop is green, this means that you do not have the necessary hydrochloric acid in your stomach needed to digest your food.  This means that the vital nutrients you need are going through your system without being assimilated.  As you drink green smoothies each day, your poop should be less green.  I used to have very green poop. As you detoxify the body, your poop gets better.

I highly suggest you have a colonic. Before you start a new program it is good to clean out the “dumpster”.  If the dumpster is full, then the toxins you are trying to remove cannot leave your body and are reabsorbed.  If you are having a heavy detox, you should have a colonic. If you do not get a colonic, you should increase the amount of fiber in your diet. Chia seeds are the new “it” food for adding bulk. When looking at chia seeds vs. enemas, an enema is still better but chia seeds are a good second alternative.

Exercise: If you have a mini-trampoline, bounce on it for 10 to 20 minutes each day.  Take a 30 minute walk.  Do stretching exercise.  Using the remote control is not considered exercise!  Hula hoop!  Make sure you have 30 to 60 minutes of movement a day.

Water: In between drinking your cleansing drinks, drink 8 to 16 ounces of water.  You want to get in a minimum of 8 glasses.  Half your body weight in ounces is best.  I do this by drinking a water bottle an hour after I drink my juice.  Add lemon to your water.  It is very alkalizing and soothing to your system, and is the basis for the detoxing lemonade diet.

Journaling: Start a gratitude journal when you detoxify the body.  Each morning when you wake up and before you go to bed, write three things you are grateful for.   Also use your journal to write how you are feeling.  Our emotions are tied heavily to food and we are taking food out of the picture for three days.  Expect to have some hard core feelings about this.  You will be tempted to eat, you will crave food and you will BEAT the temptation!  Write it down instead of eating.  Drink a glass of juice or water with lemon.  If you feel you must eat, have an apple or grapefruit.  This will fill you up and help you get past that need to eat.  Don’t eat unless you have to.  This is the one time I will tell you NOT to listen to your body.
