Go Vegan for a Healthy and Quick Weight Loss Diet

If you are looking for a healthy and quick weight loss diet, consider going vegan. A study published in The American Journal of Medicine shows that a low-fat, plant-based diet is more effective at helping women lose weight than an omnivorous diet.

The benefits of veganism extend beyond weight loss and bring positive health benefits as well. Research shows that vegetarian populations experience lower rates of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Vegans fare even better. A well-balanced vegan diet is shown to be healthier than a meat-based diet and a vegetarian diet.

What exactly is a vegan? While vegetarians avoid eating animal meat, vegans do not eat any animal products – no meat, dairy, eggs, or cheese. Vegans eat a plant-based diet only.

How does that affect weight?

  • Meat is calorie dense and also has high amounts of saturated fat, which also contributes to weight gain.
  • Vegans are more apt to fill up on healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, which have lower calorie content.
  • Because of this, you can eat more on a vegan diet without contributing to weight gain.

How much can you expect to lose? That depends widely on the individual. I lost 10 pounds within the first month of going vegan and lost another five pounds the following month. My skinny friend lost five pounds her first month. I still don’t know where she found five pounds to lose. This is the best quick weight loss diet I have ever been on and I have been on many diets. Another friend used the Quick Weight Loss Center program and also lost weight but it cost her a small fortune. There are many structured programs to follow, from Weight Watchers to the Slim Fast diet plan. Invariable, you have to find the diets that work for you.

A note needs to be added. If your diet is filled with refined sugars, starchy vegetables, and refined bread and pastas, you probably won’t lose weight no matter what diet you follow. And if you go vegan and replace animal products with foods high in refined foods, you probably won’t loss much weight. Chips, cookies and candies are vegan but eating those foods will defeat the purpose of losing weight.

There are overweight vegans just as there are thin meat-eaters. Those tend to be the exceptions rather than the rule. In fact, meat-eaters have nine times the obesity rate of vegans and, on average, vegans are 10 to 20 pounds lighter than meat-eaters. Not only is this a healthy way to eat, it is also a fast diet that allows you to lose weight.

Going vegan is not as hard as you might think, especially when you keep the health benefits in mind. Meat and dairy products are expensive, unhealthy and fattening. Cut out the processed food, stick with the freshest food, add more exercise and you will be amazed at the quick weight loss diet of going vegan.
